Case Study

Reimbursement Analysis

Situation    A company preparing to introduce new treatment for hepatitis needed to understand how the Department of Veterans Affairs was reimbursing for Hepatitis B treatments.

Actions:        Researched and wrote an analysis of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs current reimbursement practices and policies for Hepatitis B treatments, including:

Policies and practices that restrict or promote the use of specific Hepatitis B
treatments
such as guidelines and other documents

Information about any expected changes in these policies or practices

Prices paid for current treatments

Information and estimates about the incidence of chronic Hepatitis B in
patients receiving care at VA medical facilities

Outcome:     The company used the information about the VA’s procurement, pricing and formulary states for hepatitis B treatments, and the number of Hepatitis B patients receiving treatment at VA facilities, in their business planning and decision making.
